I don't know from what source Ed Sobel pasted Hedy Weiss's response to the hubbub, but here's the link to the Steppenwolf blog entry that contains it:

Well, there's obviously something amiss here! I'm inclined not to believe Hedy because, well, she's Hedy. Who wants to believe Hedy? Even today's review of "The General from America" contains some questionable content.
Mr. Sobel concludes his blog entry with the comment, "What I do find encouraging about this entire escapade as it unfolds, is the attention and concern being shown to new work, and also that a number of these artists cite Chicago as a vital contributor to the national picture." Ditto. And I say "Ditto" even though you may think I have to say that anything that Ed Sobel says is absolutely wonderful because I'm an as-yet-unproduced playwright. If I meet him someday, I shan't bat my eyes and purr, "Why, that was BRILLIANT, Mr. Sobel! Tee hee hee hee hee." No, sirree, I want my plays produced by merit, not by buttering up new play development directors with flattery.
